A funny, heartfelt Hyde Park premiere

Johannesburg - It was all glitz and glamour on the Looking For Love red carpet premiere on Monday at NuMetro cinema in Hyde Park.

The romantic comedy, which will have viewers in stitches from the first minute until the credits, features an incredible cast that includes stand-up comedian, MC and actress Celeste Ntuli, who plays the leading role and is also an associate producer of the movie.

Smiling and laughing with everyone on the red carpet, and being her crazy self as always, Ntuli looked simple and elegant in a nude, lace embroidered knee-length dress detailed in pearls with short see-through sleeves. She paired the dress with silver-and-red striped heels, and a mani and pedi on fleek.

Ntuli plays Buyi Dube, a single woman in her late thirties from KwaZulu-Natal who is looking for love in all the wrong places.

“It was exciting. It was also a learning thing for me. It’s for the first time playing a leading role; first time shooting a romantic comedy movie; and being an associate producer. It was first everything for me,” she said.

Having made her acting debut in Isibaya in 2013 as Siphokazi Zungu, she has spread her wings and says her latest project has unleashed new things she did not know about herself.

“I learnt a lot about myself. It’s about learning my capabilities and learning where I am in terms of my career, and I believe this movie will put a stamp on my acting career.”

She says shooting the movie alongside other comedians such as Trevor Gumbi, Ntobeko Madlingozi and Isaac Gampu was fun.

“It was funny throughout. There were crazy moments on set. You can imagine five comics in one space; it was something else.”

Phindile Gwala, who plays Lindi Ncube, looked ravishing in a body-hugging blue dress with a sheer overlay and a lil’ bit of floral detail. She was accompanied by her tall, dark and handsome bae, Armando Ngandu.

She was her usual loud, friendly and really excited self.

She said she loved her character as it is different from her.

“My character is colourful, bubbly and bootylicious of course. She is played by me, so obviously she is gonna be bootylicious,” said Gwala, laughing out loud.

Despite being promised a VIP treatment, we could not get to see what was on the menu because by the time the red carpet was done the food was also finished.

The movie, directed by the award-winning Adze Ugah, will open in cinemas on 31 August.
