A Star Is Born gets 2018 release date

Los Angeles  - A Star Is Born has been given a 2018 release date.

The remake of the musical drama - which was previously made for screens in 1937, 1954, and 1976 - has been slated for a September 28 2018 release, Warner Bros. have announced.

A Star Is Born will star Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the two starring roles as the story follows fading movie star (Cooper) who helps an aspiring star (Gaga) find her feet in the world of fame whilst his own career spirals downwards.

Cooper, 41, will also be making his directorial debut on the set of the remake, as well as working on the producing team alongside Jon Peters, Bill Gerber, and Basil Iwanyk.

It has also been revealed that Ray Liotta is in talks to join the cast, though it is not clear what his role would be.

The release announcement comes after a number of failed attempts by Clint Eastwood to revive the script over the past few years, before he eventually stepped down from his producing role. But with confirmed leads and now a set release date, it seems production is finally underway.

Eastwood, 86, had always cast Cooper in the main role during the failed attempts to get the project made, and made sure to suggest to him the role of director after working with him on American Sniper and hearing that Cooper was actively seeking directorial work.

For Gaga, the role comes off the back of her huge success in TV thriller 'American Horror Story: Hotel', for which she picked up a Golden Globe for best actress in a mini-series.
