African talent shines bright as 'Kanarie', 'Rafiki' and an episode of 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah' all nominated for GLAAD Awards

Cape Town - Nominations for the 31st annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on Wednesday, and African talent featured in a wonderful way. 

Along with Kenya's Rafiki, South Africa's Kanarie and an episode of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah there were 176 nominees across 30 categories. 

Rafiki and Kanarie were both nominated in the category Outstanding Film - Limited Release. While The Daily Show with Trevor Noah was nominated in the category Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode for the show titled Jacob Tobia - Promoting a 'Gender-Chill' Exploration of Identity with Sissy.

Awards will be handed out at a pair of events in New York and Los Angeles, starting at the Hilton Midtown on 19 March followed by the Beverly Hilton on 16 April.

For the latter ceremony, Taylor Swift and Janet Mock are already confirmed as featured honourees.
