'Bambi' is the latest Disney movie to get a live-action remake

Cape Town -  Bambi is the latest classic by Disney to be turned into a live-action movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) to write the screenplay for the upcoming remake.

The publication further reports that Disney views the movie as a companion piece to The Jungle Book and The Lion King remakes.

The original 1942 movie directed by David Hand tells the story of Bambi, a young deer growing up in a forest with his friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower. As he grows, he learns that there is tragedy as well as beauty and joy in his forest world and on the path to adulthood.

The animated film was nominated in three Oscar categories - best song, best score and best sound.

Other live-action remakes in the works include Peter and Wendy, Peter Pan, Lilo and Stitch and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, reports Variety.
