Cape Town – The full-length feature of Bennie Fourie and Bouwer Bosch’s award winning short film Vuil Wasgoed hits cinemas on Friday.
In 2014 the pair entered the short for competition at the Silverskerm Festival where it went on to win the award for Best Short Film as well as funding to develop the feature film.
Bennie and Bouwer not only star in the film but also share writing credits for the comedy caper which was directed by Morne du Toit.
The film centres on two cleaning clerks at a laundromat, Wim (Bouwer) and Kevin (Bennie).
A mysterious man brings in a suit that Kevin immediately likes. He decides to wear it out to a party and discovers a dismembered finger in the pocket. When he returns to the laundromat he finds the mysterious man waiting for him.
Other cast members include: Stiaan Smith, Nico Panagio, Tim Theron, Simoné Nortmann, Leandie du Randt Bosch and Charlie Bouguenon.
THE MAKING OF VUIL WASGOED
“Filming took place mainly in and around Johannesburg and Krugersdorp. We scouted locations extensively and dressed sets to our liking,” says Bennie.
The film was shot in 5 weeks. With the cast working 6 days a week.
Bennie adds: “More than three weeks of the shoot was night shoots from 18:00 to 06:00 in the morning.”
Bennie’s favourite scene to film was the final one at a container yard.
“It was written quite big and I think we pulled it off.”
