Ben Affleck has written a script for his very own Batman flick

Los Angeles - Ben Affleck has penned a script for a standalone Batman film.

The 43-year-old actor made his debut as The Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opposite Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.

Despite criticism of his casting when it was first announced, Affleck's performance as the DC Comics superhero and his alter ego Bruce Wayne has received critical acclaim, compared to a less-than enthusiastic response from some critics to Zack Snyder's movie as a whole.

Affleck is contracted to play Batman in another three films - including the two Justice League movies - and has offered up his own script as a potential story for an adventure focusing solely on the Gotham City saviour.

William Morris Endeavor's joint CEOs Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell gave a joint interview with The Hollywood Reporter which reveal his pitch to Warner Bros. Pictures.

Whitesell told the publication: "He's contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape. There's a script that he's written that is a really cool Batman idea, so that's out there as an option."

Whitesell also revealed that Affleck will make a cameo appearance as Batman in this year's Suicide Squad - which stars Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot among others.

Affleck has had huge success as a writer and director, wining the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for 1997 film 'Good Will Hunting, which he wrote with his long-time friend and collaborator Matt Damon, and his 2012 movie Argo - which he helmed - earned him the Best Picture Oscar in 2013.

It was previously reported in June 2015 that Affleck was in the early stages of developing a Batman "plan" with DC Entertainment COO Geoff Johns.
