Producer Barbara Broccoli has weighed in on whether the next Bond could be a woman.

Daniel Craig confirmed that he's leaving during his Saturday Night Live appearance this past weekend.

The 51-year-old shot down rumours in his opening monologue on the variety show that he would appear in a sixth film saying, "This next James Bond film is going to be my last, but it's going to be one of the best."

On the future of the titular character, Barbara said in an interview with Variety that the next Bond can be any colour, but he is male.

"I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. I'm not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that," said Barbara.

The release of the 25th film, No Time To Die, has been postponed due to the spread of Covid-19.

It will now be released globally on 25 November and 27 November in South Africa.
