Cate Blanchett defends straight actors playing gay roles

Cape Town - Cate Blanchett has openly defended during a recent interview, straight actors who take on roles of gay characters, and added that she would 'fight to the death' for her right to play whatever role she chooses.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the actress was speaking about her life's work at the Rome Film Festival with artistic director Antonio Monda.

During the talk she mentioned that when she was doing the press junket for Carol in which she played a woman who has a secret affair with another woman,  journalists asked whether having a lesbian experience was important to understanding the role.
