Cate Blanchett was forced into acting

Cape Town - Cate Blanchett believes she was pushed into acting because she actually wanted to travel the world.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar magazine the Oscar-winning actress revealed the only thing she wanted to do when she left high school was to travel the world.

"I thought maybe I'd move into the visual arts, but from a curatorial perspective, or architecture, even though my maths was absolutely woeful", said Blanchett. 

After her sister saw a performance by her Blanchett ditched her economics and fine-arts degree and applied to study drama in Sydney.

With 68 credits to her name and a number of awards the actress does thing her time in the industry is running up and might crossover to directing. 

In the meantime Blanchett's latest movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls hits cinemas Friday, 5 October.
