Cuban actress Ana de Armas thrilled to play Marilyn Monroe

Knives Out actress Ana de Armas is gearing to play Marilyn Monroe in an upcoming drama.

Blonde which is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates is a fictionalised take on the life of the iconic actress, model and singer.

In an interview with Vanity Fair Ana said being cast to play Marilyn would be ground-breaking: "A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe. I wanted it so badly."

Before taking on the role the 31-year-old didn't know much about Marilyn, but now she identifies with her in a deep way: "You see that famous photo of her, and she is smiling in the moment, but that's just a slice of what she was really going through at the time."
