Cape Town – A Star Is Born bursts onto South Africa cinema screens this weekend.
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga star in the third remake of the original 1937 film.
In this new take on the tragic love story, Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers- and falls in love with-struggling artist Ally (Gaga).
Also showing: A slasher horror and a local comedy drama.
Here are the 3 new films releasing in SA cinemas:
Movie: A Star Is Born
Our rating: 5/5
Short review: The third remake of one of Hollywood’s oldest stories as directed and co-written by that guy from the Hangover has no business being anywhere near this great. The race for the Best Picture Oscar begins here.
Movie: Hell Fest
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: Hell Fest is a bland appetiser in the lead up to Halloween. It overuses familiar tropes of the slasher horror genre and doesn't bring anything original to the table.
Movie: Baby Mamas
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: With a cast and crew of this calibre you have a recipe for total success, at least on paper.
