Cape Town - George Clooney is the world’s highest-paid actor– and it has something to do with Tequila!
On Tuesday Forbes magazine released its list of highest-paid actors for 2018.
George (57) scored a “career-high pre-tax paycheck of $239 million (R3,4 billion) between 1 June 2017 and 1 June 2018,” the publication reports.
But the Money Monster star didn’t earn the big bucks from appearing on the big screen.
A large chunk of his earnings came from selling his Casamigos Tequila company, which he co-founded in 2013 with Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, for $1 billion (then R12,5 billion) in June 2017, People reports.
“If you asked us four years ago if we had a billion-dollar company I don’t think we’d have said yes,” George said in an interview with CNBC.
“But we’re not going anywhere. We’ll still be very much a part of Casamigos.”
But George isn’t the only Hollywood star who raked in the big bucks this year. Dwayne Johnson came in second place after earning a $124-million (R1,7 billion) cut of the profits of his blockbuster Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
“Social media has become the most critical element of marketing a movie for me,” the 46-year-old told Forbes.
“I’ve established a social media equity with an audience around the world that there’s a value in what I’m delivering to them.”
