Gladiator sequel reportedly in the works

Cape Town – Ridley Scott is reportedly going ahead with plans for a Gladiator sequel. 

Deadline reports that Gladiator 2 will follow the story of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielson), who is the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).

According to The Hollywood Reporter the film is in the early stages of development.

Peter Craig (Hunger Games: Mockingjay 1 &2) will write the script with Ridley back at the helm to direct.

The 2000 film starring Russell Crowe grossed $460m at the box office and garnered 11 Oscar nominations. It went on to win Best Picture and Best Actor.
