Guardians of the Galaxy cast sign statement to have James Gunn reinstated

Cape Town - The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy have signed an official statement to have James Gunn reinstated as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn was fired from the third movie last week, over a series of offensive tweets posted on the social media site several years ago.

During 2008 and 2011 the disgraced Disney director joked about topics such as rape and paedophilia.

Showing his support for Gunn, Chris Pratt wrote on Instagram: "Although I don't support James Gunn's inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I'd personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3. If you please, read the following statement- signed by our entire cast."

The official statement signed by the full cast reads in part: "We are all shocked by his abrupt firing," adding that they are encouraged by the support from fans and the media who wish to see him reinstated.

More than 240 000 people signed a petition to have Gunn reinstated following his dismissal.
