Here's who will be playing Ariel in 'The Little Mermaid' live-action movie

Cape Town – Disney has finally cast Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Halle Bailey half of the Grammy-nominated R&B duo Chloe x Halle will play the princess from under the sea.

The 19-year-old said on Twitter that it was a dream come true.

Director Rob Marshall said in a statement that the young singer "possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role."

Halle joins Jacob Tremblay who will play Flounder, and Awkwafina who will be the seagull, Scuttle.

Melissa McCarthy is reportedly in talks to play the villain, Ursula.

According to Variety, the new film will feature original songs from the 1989 animation and new songs from composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

This will be Halle's first major role she currently stars alongside her sister and music partner Chloe in the Black-ish spin-off, Grown-ish.
