Johannesburg - Gushing fans – particularly the ladies – couldn’t contain their excitement at the news of Hollywood superstar Michael B Jordan coming to South African shores.

The movie star landed in Johannesburg last week Friday. He has been in South Africa for a few days promoting his new film, Creed II, alongside his co-star Florian Munteanu – who plays his nemesis, Viktor Drago – and film director Steven Caple Jnr.

“It’s my second time in South Africa and my first in Johannesburg.

The response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive and there’s a lot of love – just seeing all the people coming out to the premiere.

And yeah, it’s a really warm feeling here,” Michael says about his first visit to Joburg.

“Honestly, it was really important for me to make this a stop for our press tour, especially a first one and for our international tour. So to be able to come out here and be with the people, and to just, you know, yeah bring this movie, like my film here, it’s really special.”

One thing’s for sure, as handsome and burly as he is on screen, so too is he in person. And his welcoming and relaxed demeanour would certainly make him fit in perfectly with us South Africans.

But unfortunately for him, only having limited time in our beautiful country, he wasn’t able to see as much as he could.

He did manage to squeeze in some downtime – making an appearance at a night club over the weekend – but mostly it was all work, including the film premiere at Sandton City on Saturday night. But he promises to be back to experience more.

“I wish I had more time here, honestly. But you know we’re on a promo tour and we’re bouncing around from city to city, country to country. Just to be able to take a little bit of time to have dinner and go to a club out here was pretty cool. But I missed the market that was yesterday – I think there’s a Sunday market that was out here,” he says.

“I didn’t get a chance to see Mandela Square. There’s a lot of things that I wish I had more time to really soak in and absorb, but I’ll be back.”

After the Creed II press tour is done and dusted, Michael hopes to take some downtime to “nap” and travel, experiencing different cultures and taste foods from around the world.

Pity he didn’t have a chance to taste any of our local cuisine, but he’s no stranger to one of his favourite South African snacks – biltong.

“I’ll try anything once but biltong is something I eat, I could eat that all day.”
