It's action, suspense, and adventure at local cinemas this weekend with the release of 4 new flicks

Cape Town – Thrillers, action, and adventure take over local cinemas this weekend with four new offerings.

Nicole Kidman is barely recognisable in Destroyer, A retelling of the legend of King Arthur falls flat in The Kid Who Would Be King, and viewers see the dark side of puzzle solving in Escape Room.

Fourth on the list is Cold Pursuit, a thriller overshadowed by Hollywood heavyweight Liam Neeson's racist comment during an interview with a journalist from The Independent.

HERE ARE THE 4 NEW MOVIES TO SEE:

Movie: Destroyer

Our rating: 2/5

Short review: Despite an excellent lead performance from an unrecognisable Nicole Kidman and artistic, fully committed direction from Karyn Kusama, Destroyer is a bleak, ugly, humourless dirge that fails spectacularly to give the audience anything to care about.

Movie: The Kid Who Would Be King

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: A decent but uninspired retelling of the legend of King Arthur, The Kid Who Would Be King could have done with just a bit more of that wit and invention on which director Joe Cornish made his name.

Movie: Escape Room

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: A woefully misguided final act sinks what is otherwise a perfectly enjoyable, nuts-and-bolts puzzle-thriller that offers a solid alternative to the Saw series for those who are down with the elaborate puzzles but down on the gore.

Movie: Cold Pursuit

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: Cold Pursuit is a dark and cold look at the theme of revenge served with a healthy dose of humour in a typical American action flick setting.
