Cape Town - Jamie Dornan, who plays the oh-so-sexy and naughty billionaire Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, says he’s ready to hang up his handcuffs.

The Irish heartthrob, who returns to the big screen next week in the highly anticipated third instalment, Fifty Shades Freed, reckons he’s now past his prime to reprise his role.

When asked by TV host Lorraine Kelly if Fifty Shades Freed would be the last one the 35-year-old replied: “Um yeah, I think so. I mean there’s no other books ... Unless Erica [EL James] keeps writing, but Dakota Johnson and are I are ... particularly me, I’m getting too old for ... for this.”

He also revealed he’s come to like his controversial character “more now than I did in the first movie.”

“I think he’s gone through quite a big change in his ... in his way and how he is with people and he’s opened up a lot by Ana and I think he’s just a better version of himself.”

But a problem he’s attracted by playing the role is that fans genuinely mistake him for his character. “I get it a lot, especially in the [United] States. I’d be in a pub and someone calls me Mr Grey. The lines are a wee bit blurred about what’s reality and what the fantasy is. I think I’ll get it for another while.”

Surprisingly he says his wife, British actress Amelia Warner (35) – with whom he has two daughters, Dulcie (4) and Elva (2) – hasn’t seen the movies. When asked by talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres if it’s hard to go home and sort of “live up to that guy”, Jamie quipped, “I’d like to think she’s more in love with me than that guy. We have this idea of watching them [the films] when we’re much older in our seventies and screening them.”
