Joe Alwyn to play royal lover in new movie

Cape Town -  Joe Alwyn, the star of Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, will play Queen Elizabeth's lover in new movie, reports The Hollywood Reporter

The actor will star alongside Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan in Mary Queen of Scots.

Based on John Guy's 2004 biography The True Life of Mary Stuart the story centres on the family rivalry between Elizabeth (Robbie) and Mary (Ronan).

After being sent to France as a child Mary returns back to England and tries to overthrow the throne. 

Joe will play Dudley, Queen Elizabeth's counsellor and lover. 

After his breakout role in the Ang Lee film Joe has become a rising star.

He will also been seen in the Yorgos Lanthimos period drama The Favourite, alongside Emma Stone.
