Cape Town – Keegan-Michael Key is making the switch from comedy to action.

The actor, best known for his role in the Comedy Central sketch series Key & Peele, makes his action film debut in the latest instalment of The Predator series which releases in SA on Friday, 14 September.

In the film he plays Coyle, a man who teams up with the crew to fight the Predators.

Speaking about what drew him to the role, Key says he was inspired by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fear in the original 1987 film directed by John McTiernan.

“It is the only movie in my life that I have seen where Schwarzenegger looks scared.”

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last week amidst controversy.

Fox announced on Thursday that it removed scenes from the movie after they learned the actor Steven Wilder Striegel is a registered sex offender. Director Shane Black, who is a long-time friend of Striegel apologised for casting him. (Read more here)
