Los Angeles - Kevin Costner is set to star in a new space drama.
The 61-year-old actor has reportedly been cast as the head of the NASA space programme in the forthcoming film Hidden Figures alongside his former co-star Octavia Spencer and Taraji P Henson, according to Variety.
The movie will follow the story of a mathematician (Henson) who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the masterminds behind the historic launch of astronaut John Glenn - the first American to orbit the Earth - into space in 1962.
The film - set in the 1960s - will be based on Margot Lee Shetterly's forthcoming book 'Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race', while Ted Melfi will produce the new project.
It's not yet known when the drama will go into production but, in the meantime, Costner can next be seen in the action-thriller Criminal, which hits cinemas on 15 April.
The legendary actor will portray Jericho Stewart, a dangerous criminal who is implanted with a dead CIA agent's memories to finish an assignment, alongside Gary Oldman, Ryan Reynolds and Tommy Lee Jones.
