Cape Town - From musician to actress, Khanyi Mbau is one of the few celebrities who has managed to reinvent her brand and stay relevant in the entertainment industry – and now she’s finally getting recognition for her acting talent.
The actress recently won her first acting accolade by taking home the gong for best actress in a motion picture at the inaugural South African International Film Academy Awards, which took place at Gold Reef City in Joburg on Saturday.
Sadly, she wasn’t there to accept the award in person as she was attending Somizi Mhlongo’s wedding, but award-winning actor Dr John Kani, who was at the ceremony, congratulated Khanyi on Twitter.
"Last night I attended the Inaugural South African International Film Academy Awards. The house was sad that you were not present to accept the Best Actress Award in a motion picture. Congratulations," he wrote.
