Cape Town – James Franco’s much talked about film The Disaster Artist hits cinemas this weekend.
The comedy-drama which Franco produced, directed and stars in chronicles the making of Tommy Wiseau's 2003 The Room, widely considered one of the worst movies ever made.
Also to see: The final instalment of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, a post 9/11 war story, a comedy, and an animation for little adventurers.
Here are the 5 new films releasing in SA:
Movie: The Disaster Artist
Our rating: 5/5
Short review: With Disaster Artist, James Franco wants to know who gets to decide what is good and what is bad.
Movie: Fifty Shades Freed
Our rating: 1/5
Short review: A mess of subplots and almost entirely forgetting what its main draw-card was in the first place makes Fifty Shades Freed the nadir in one of the most ill-conceived film trilogies ever.
Movie: 12 Strong
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Chris Hemsworth leads a solid wartime film in 12 Strong, a post-9/11 story many Americans may not know.
Movie: Just Getting Started
Our rating: 1/5
Short review: Just Getting Started is a sneak peek at a retired Gaston and his ageing Bimbettes, set in a Tuscan villa resort instead of France.
Movie: Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas
Our rating: 2/5
Short review: Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas is perfect for youngsters – it's adventurous, a little thrilling and has a ton of silly/innocent jokes that will keep the kids giggling.
