Johannesburg - Lillian Dube is telling women to stop looking for love in all the wrong places. She also insists that nobody can be responsible for anyone else’s happiness and says she’s “honest” about owning no less than seven vibrators.
Speaking ahead of the release of her new film Looking for Love, written by Nigeria-born film maker Adze Ugah, the 73-year-old actress told City Press: “As parents, it doesn’t matter how we parent our children, they will always choose to be who they want to be. They always look for love in wrong places and this leads them to be miserable.”
In the comedy, Dube plays a no-nonsense mother to Buyi, who is played by comedienne Celeste Ntuli. Buyi is under pressure to find love and her parents insist she take her head out of the clouds and focus on finding a good man with whom to settle down.

Dube said she could relate to her on-screen daughter because she had also looked for love in the wrong places.
She admits that she was also unlucky in love before she met Kenneth Mgqamqo, the man who stole her heart. Dube dated Mgqamqo for 13 years before they broke up and then reunited three years ago.
“When I met him, I was looking for companionship, honesty and trust. I love him with all his imperfections because I am also not perfect. I was not looking for a man who is an ATM because I am responsible and I have my own money.”
But still she loves to be spoilt by her man, saying: “I still appreciate flowers and perfume as gifts for my birthday.”
Although she has finally found her soulmate, she doesn’t see herself getting married again.
Dube says she and Mgqamqo talk about everything from sex to their love life, although he does become “very shy”, especially when they talk about sex.
But she doesn’t beat about the bush when it comes to that.
“I am still sexually active – I own seven vibrators. I live an honest life. I have nothing to hide,” she said, adding that she bought them when she was still single a few years ago.
“People must not live to please people. Your happiness is your own responsibility. Life is also about choices.”
Dube, who has appeared in hit shows including Soul City, Skwizas, Madam & Eve and Generations, says she would still love to have her own show.
And although she doesn’t want to reveal too much about her new film, she said many people are going to fall in love with the storyline.
“The movie is educational, riveting and hilarious,” she said.
Looking for Love, which also stars actress Phindile Gwala and comedian Trevor Gumbi, opens at cinemas nationwide on 31 August.
