Maleficent sequel gets big release date boost

Cape Town - Angelina Jolie's Maleficent sequel has been given a big calendar boost as Disney bosses have moved the film's debut up seven months.

On Wednesday the studio released unveiled the poster for the upcoming sequel which revealed the title and the release date. 

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will now open in cinemas on 18 October it was originally slated for a May 2020 release.

Elle Fanning (Aurora) and Sam Riley (Diaval) will reprise their roles.

New cast members include: Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay and Harris Dickinson. 

In the sequel, directed by Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Disney's most notorious villain continues to explore her complex relationship with Princess Aurora, the soon to be queen, as they form alliances against new adversaries.
