Cape Town – There are four new films opening in local cinemas this weekend, and includes something for everyone.
Kong is back and still king, but may be overshadowed by Tom Ford’s 5-star dark drama.
Also in cinemas is a local biographical film that tells an important story of South African history, as well as a hyper-real cinematic experience.
Here are 4 new films at the local box office:
Movie: Nocturnal Animals
Our rating: 5/5
Short review: This dark drama is a devastatingly beautiful melancholic cinematic experience that keeps the audience guessing until the very end.
Movie: Kong: Skull Island
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: The latest King Kong movie is too lacking in both warmth and focus to go down as a classic but it's still a perfectly fun, sometimes even spectacular, time at the movies.
Movie: Kalushi
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Kalushi tells the story of activist Solomon Mahlangu in a touching way, but it might not be for everyone.
Movie: Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: Ang Lee had good intentions but this adaptation just didn’t live up to its well-written literary counterpart.
