The former Quantico actress was announced as the face of the 10th annual CTIFMF in August. Following the major announcement Pearl said that she was "proud and excited to be part of such an incredible festival that celebrates African stories and arts."

Speaking about what the CTIFMF festival means for the South African film industry, Pearl says: "I think that we have the potential to grow. We have the opportunity to see stories that we don't get to see that often. And stories that are really going to touch us. We can learn from stories that other people are telling. Just like music, film is a medium where we can connect, learn from each other, and appreciate each other, so that we can become a better industry."

Pearl didn't expect to be named brand ambassador for such an prestigious festival, but said she felt "blessed with such an amazing opportunity."

"I am really proud of this and hope it's going to be more than me just being a face - even though that's exciting - but for me the vision is that local artists really start garnering the strength and the knowledge to start telling their own stories. We are a very pivotal part of the industry worldwide."

She adds: "I just want to be the Miriam Makeba of my time. I want people to say: 'if it wasn't for her, we wouldn't be here.'"

When asked about what films she is most excited to see during the festival she simply says that she wants to watch as much as posible: "I want to watch without any preconsecptions. And I want to come with no bias."

Pearl who has been cast in the Hollywood heist movie The Blue Mauritius alongside Marvel's Avengers actor Anthony Mackie, says that she is really "excited" about the opportunity.

"What's interesting about The Blue Mauritius is that it was annouced two years ago, but people forgot. It was supposed to be shot sooner, but I'm really excited about it. Especially with all the new cast members that are being revealed and all the new information coming out. I know it's going to be great."
