Cape Town - The film, called Bully, features transgender actor Jake Graf, and focuses on the cyberbullying suffered by people who are open about their sexuality.

In the film, a number of social media users of the LGBTQIA+ community read out hurtful messages sent to them on their various platforms in order to raise awareness about the impact of cyber bullying.

Along with a focus on the abuse hurled at members of the LGBTQ+ community, the film showcases statistics that sheds a spotlight on the effect of online bullying.

According to the film, 42% of LGBTQ+ youth have experienced online bullying, while 33% have experienced online sexual harassment, four times higher than their straight counterparts.

The film also claims that members of the LGBTQ+ community are twice as likely to attempt suicide.

Sade herself suffered online abuse after the release of the film after one of her follower’s called her out for being a lesbian.

“So of course after the release of ‘Bully’ I got trolled by some bot/woman with 0 followers on twitter & instagram who then left hate comments on my recent insta posts,” she tweeted about the abuse. “Not only about my sexuality, but stupid dumb sh*t too! I reported her lame ass!!!”
