Solo is an entertaining but perhaps unnecessary Star Wars addition

MOVIE REVIEW: The back story of Han Solo, well executed but how many movies are going to make up the story of Star Wars?

Solo: A Star Wars Stor

Director: Ron Howard
Starring: Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke

I’ve got to say, the Star Wars thing is getting a bit much now. How many movies are they going to make? I know the galaxy is vast, but now the story is too.

However, Solo is a decent movie, and you’ll learn the origin of one of the most important characters in the Star Wars universe – Han Solo. Ever wondered how he met Chewbacca? This explains their bond rather nicely.

It also shows the inner conflicts Solo deals with, as well as his craving for a quick come up versus his desire to aid the helpless. Han is played very believably by Alden Ehrenreich, while Emilia Clarke plays his long-lost friend and romantic flame.

I think she’s cool, but she might rely a bit too much on her aesthetic to drive the roles she plays. Girl, we know you’re fine, but your acting could do with a shot of passion.

Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) also let me down – his character was bland and rarely funny. If it wasn’t for Woody Harrelson and the young Solo, the show would’ve been completely stolen by a politically driven droid called L3, who may be the best robot since R2D2.

If you’re a fan, go see it, but don’t expect anything too fantastic. The prolific Ron Howard is behind the film, so the story makes sense and is worthy of Disney distribution, but I don’t feel this feature was necessary.
