Cape Town - While Trevor Noah, Nomzamo Mbatha and Charlize Theron are flying the SA flag high in Hollywood, actress Terry Pheto is doing the same in the United Kingdom.

At the British Urban Film Festival (BUFF), which took place in London over the weekend, the star walked away with the best actress award for her role in the movie Faces.

The flick also won two other awards at the festival in the categories of best actor (won by British actor Aki Omoshaybi) and best feature film, director Joseph Adesunloye said.

Taking to her social media pages on Sunday, Terry revealed what an honour it was to win the award.

"Woke up to the amazing news that I won Best Actress Award at the British Urban Film Festival Awards last night in London. What an honour . . . thank you @buffenterprises."

Speaking to Stacey Norman on East Coast Radio on Tuesday, the award-winning actress revealed what her role in the film was all about.

"The movie is just like a quick mirror into people’s lives and what they’re going through at the time. We get to see my character who is in a very toxic and abusive relationship. The movie highlights issues that people are too uncomfortable to talk about," she told the show's host.

It is not the first time Terry has won big for her acting. In 2006 the star won the prestigious Golden Horn award for best supporting actress on the movie Tsotsi and she also won the best supporting actress gong at the UK National Film Awards in 2017 for her role in the film A United Kingdom.

Nathi Mthethwa congratulated the actress on Twitter. He wrote "Terry Pheto continues to push the envelope & show not only South Africa but the world, what it means to be great".
