Cape Town – That killer doll Chucky from the 1980s slasher film is back.
This time he has had a high-tech upgrade in the remake of Child's Play which releases in SA cinemas on Friday, 12 July.
The film which stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry, with Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky, follows a family that is terrorised by a high-tech doll that rejects its programming, becoming self-aware and murderous.
Producer Seth Grahame-Smith wanted to find talented and unexpected actors that could really deliver the emotional resonance the film needed and needed to breathe life into their roles.
For Aubrey who plays single mom Karen this was a first-time journey into horror films the movie presented an opportunity for her to delve into a different kind of character than she’s used to.
Karen's son Andy is played by Gabriel a 13-year-old who comes into the possession of Chucky.
Rounding out the cast is Brian who plays Detective Mike Norris, a city cop that grew up in the building that Andy and Karen move into.
