Cape Town – The trailer for the upcoming horror film, Slender Man, based on the internet phenomenon will freak you out.

Slender Man (Slenderman) is a fictitious character/creepypasta meme of an abnormally tall, faceless man who stalks and abducts children.

In 2014, he inspired real-life horror as two 12-year-old girls lured a friend into the woods and stabbed her 19 times in an effort to “appease” the fictional entity.

HBO’s documentary Beware the Slenderman examined “how an urban myth could take root in impressionable young minds, leading to an unspeakable act."

Back to the movie.

In a small town in Massachusetts, a group of friends perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of Slender Man. When one of them mysteriously goes missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, his latest victim.

The film stars Joey King, Julia Goldani-Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, and Javier Bote.

Slender Man releases in SA cinemas on Friday, 2 November.
