There's a Hocus Pocus remake in the works and fans aren't happy

Cape Town – Disney Channel has announced that a remake of the cult classic Hocus Pocus is in the works.

The 1993 original movie starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as three witches — known as the Sanderson sisters who are resurrected and go on to terrorise three teenagers in Salem.

According to Deadline the re-imaging will be a television movie and have a brand new cast.

Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) will write the script and Kenny Ortega will direct the project.

Fans have long been canvassing for a sequel of the original film.

The original film grossed $39m and has been a favourite rerun on the Disney Channel.

In a 2014 Reddit AMA Midler said she was keen on doing a Hocus Pocus 2

With news of the remake fans reacted angrily on Twitter.
