Johannesburg - They’re back! Led by Peter Quill/Star Lord (Chris Pratt), they’re rowdy, yet so cute, and believe me, I usually hate cute stuff.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is a commercial movie with an indie feel, sporting a star-studded cast. Clearly the budget was astronomical and the visual effects are Hollywood top-drawer. But I watched it in 4-D. Miss me with that. My seat was jerking back and forth like an old-school Chevy on hydraulic switches. Spilt my drink and all that. If you can, catch the 2-D. If you must, the 3-D. Either would be better than strobe lights and dodgy seats.
Groot is now a baby if you recall what happened in Volume 1. Drax (Dave Bautista) provides some much-needed dry humour.
The fresh part about this is the soundtrack. Man, old-school bangers and nostalgia in the air. An interesting dynamic between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and her long-lost sister Nebula (Karen Gillan) injects an entertaining sibling rivalry. Two bad-ass female characters in a fight scene you won’t believe.
On the whole fam, it’s dope. Look out for Taserface.
