Cape Town – Hollywood romantic comedies rarely get real life love stories right.
The Big Sick directed by Judd Apatow and starring Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan is about to change the game.
The film based on the real-life courtship of Kumail and his wife, Emily Gordon premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and it already has a 97% rating on RottenTomatoes.
Some have even labelled it the rom-com of the year.
The story follows Kumail and Emily (Zoe Kazan) as they fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family’s expectations, and his true feelings.
The film also stars Ray Romano and Holly Hunter.
