Cape Town - American comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish thought she was being paid to present at the Oscars, but she definitely wasn’t laughing all the way to the bank.

According to BET.com, Tiffany missed the memo when it came to her biggest gig.

The 38-year-old was surprised to hear she wouldn’t be paid to present the golden statuette at this year’s ceremony but she did make a hilarious but brief appearance with actress Maya Rudolph at the 90th Academy Awards.

“In my mind Maya [Rudolph] and I thought we auditioned for the ultimate job because I thought we was getting paid for that presentation,” Tiffany said at the premiere of her upcoming series, The Last OG.

And after finding out it's a free gig, Tiffany hilariously hinted at a “gift bag” – only to be offered other Oscar souvenirs like a bottle of wine, which she had to pay for!

“And then I found out we didn't get paid. Then I was like, 'I heard about gift bags'. And then they were like, 'We don't [have] no gift bags', and then I was like, 'Well, what do I get?' and they [said], 'We got a bottle of wine that's like $13 (R153)'. So, I had to buy the wine.”

But Tiffany, who’s starred in movies such as Meet the Spartans, Keanu, and Girls Trip, says she’d jump at the opportunity to host the Oscars one day. But Variety reports that she’d do the dream gig on one condition: She gets paid.

“At the end of the day I would love to do something like that,” she told the magazine. “That would be a dream come true. I know my father would be extremely proud if I got to do that. As long as I get a pay cheque.”

The host of last year and this year’s Academy Awards, Jimmy Kimmel, revealed he was paid a meagre amount. According to Time, Jimmy was paid $15 000 (R176 000), which is a far cry from his $15-million-a-year salary as host of his late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live.

For now, Tiffany will host this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards in June. We’re sure she’s getting paid, though!
