Tyler Perry to produce film based on the true-life murder of Amy Biehl in SA

Cape Town – Tyler Perry will produce a movie about the death of Amy Biehl through his 34th Street Films banner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the drama, Through the Eye of the Storm will tell the story of Biehl, an American Fulbright scholar and Anti-Apartheid activist who was stabbed to death by an angry mob in Cape Town in 1993.

Deadline reports that the film “will paint a vivid picture of a country nearing civil war as it struggled with its national destiny in a desperate fight to end decades of systematic racism.”

The film will be directed by Karzan Kader and produced by Perry, Ozzie Areu, Matt Moore, Russ Stratton and Johanna Baldwin. Baldwin (Venus and Mars, Someone Else's America) will also write the script.

Producer Autumn Bailey visited Cape Town last week to scout for locations, to meet the crew that will be working on the film and to celebrate Beihl’s legacy on the 25th anniversary of her death.
