Cape Town – Carey Mulligan literally takes a crowbar to toxic rape culture in the trailer for Promising Young Woman.
Killing Eve showrunner Emerald Fennell makes her directorial debut with the upcoming revenge thriller.
The film centres on Cassie (Mulligan) a 'promising young woman' whose life gets derailed after a tragic event. She's a medical school drop-out who lives at home with her parents and works at a coffee shop, but leads a different life at night as she turns the tables on 'nice guys'.

In an interview with Empire online Emerald shared what she wanted to achieve with the film.
About the opening scene with Adam Brody's character she said: "I was so interested in people who aren't evil, and how our culture contributes to all of us making bad calls because it's so normal. In Britain and in America too, part of our seduction culture for men and women is getting hammered."
The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
