WATCH: Gabourey Sidibe makes her directorial debut

Cape Town – Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe has made her directorial debut with a gripping new short film.

Her film The Tale of Four is inspired by Nina Simone's song, Four Women.

This 20-minute film which premiered at the Nantucket Film Festival earlier this year interweaves four stories of race-based violence and fatal encounters with the police through a female’s perspective.

The film is part of Refinery29's Shatterbox Anthology which gives 12 female directors the opportunity to showcase their work.
