WATCH: IT director Andy Muschietti reveals what it was like to get Stephen King’s approval

Cape Town – Channel24 recently flew to Madrid to interview the director of the new IT movie, Andy Muschietti.

A remake of the 1986 Stephen King novel, the film is the first big screen adaptation to be made, following the 1990 miniseries starring Tim Curry.

And as predicted, IT has smashed box office records on its opening weekend in the US, breaking records for horror film opening weekends with a staggering $123m.

Argentine director Muschietti took to Instagram on Tuesday, saying nothing has prepared him for IT’s success and to thank fans for watching the movie.

See his post here:

I made this movie with a lot of love but nothing prepared me for the love that was returned this weekend. I want to Thank all the fans of IT for being such a big part of the MAGIC of this phenomenon . Some of you saw the movie twice and even three times already. There are really no words to describe how proud you made me and all of us who made this film. I love you. ??: @finnandnoahbabies #itmovie

As with every remake, it’s always a plus when the writer of the story loves your work, and in this case, Stephen King has expressed his approval of the new IT film, even saying that he’s watched it more than once.

How does Andy feel about getting the master of horror's approval?
