Cape Town – The wait is finally over – Marvel’s most powerful hero makes her first appearance in cinemas this weekend.
Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. When a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the centre of the maelstrom.
Also showing: An American crime drama based on the true story of Richard Wershe Jr. who became the youngest FBI informant at the age of 14.
Here are 2 new films releasing in SA cinemas:
Movie: Captain Marvel
Our rating: 5/5
Short review: The luminous heart of this film is Brie Larson whose performance is one of the best I've seen from a Marvel protagonist.
Movie: White Boy Rick
Our rating: 3/5
Short review: White Boy Rick tells an incredible true story that is solidly performed by a top-drawer cast, but fritters away much of its potential on a generic crime-thriller script that focuses far too often on the least interesting aspects of the story it is trying to tell.
Red Room is also showing in South African cinemas but Channel24 didn't have the opportunity to preview the film before its release.
