anywhere but home
What it's about:

Kate (Reese Witherspoon) and Brad (Vince Vaughn) are a happily unmarried couple who avoid spending Christmas with their families at all costs and instead travel to exotic locales. But when they find themselves fogged in at the San Francisco airport and their flight to Fiji cancelled, they have no choice but to spend the holiday with their divorced parents and the rest of their dysfunctional relatives.
Released internationally under the title Four Christmases.

What the critics said:

"Witherspoon works hard to convince us otherwise, but this is a miscast mess. Definitely a turkey rather than a Christmas pudding."
- Helen OHara, Empire Magazine

"In this egregious Christmas movie, Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon each demonstrate the classic "Hollywood romcom" face: waxy as a corpse, dead-eyed with self-loathing."
- Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

"Witherspoon and Vaughn are physically ill-matched. She has never looked tinier, while the always gigantic Vaughn has put on so much weight that I half-expected the big plot revelation to be that he'd eaten her twin sister."
- Christopher Tookey, Daily Mail

"Ho, ho, ho? No, no, no."
- Joe Leydon, Houston Chronicle

"When will filmmakers learn that if you start with Bad Santa and finish with It's a Wonderful Life, you just end up with curdled eggnog?"
-  Ty Burr, Boston Globe

A couple struggle to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day.

"Anywhere but Home" may have arrived a tad belatedly for Xmas - flight problems? - but is still worth a watch. Not the most seamless of movies, it's still quite fun. Vaughan, though not convincing as a yuppie, is always worth a couple of laughs, and this is really his movie. Witherspoon makes a lovely foil, and an ensemble cast - hey, it's got Robert Duvall - adds spice to this sweet piece of fluff.
