Black or White

What it's about:

A grandfather is suddenly left to care for his beloved granddaughter. When her paternal grandmother seeks custody, the little girl is torn between two families who love her deeply. With the best intentions at heart, both families fight for what they feel is right and are soon forced to confront their true feelings about race, forgiveness, and understanding.

Based on real events, this is a look at two seemingly different worlds, in which nothing is as simple as black or white.

What the critics say:

Although the script lacks nuance or any real tension, Binder uses Costner effectively.
- Perry Seibert, TV Guide's Movie Guide

More depth and clarity than expected.
- Bruce Bennett, Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

The script, written by director Binder, tries to say too much, and in doing so, loses some of its charm.
- Michael A. Smith, MediaMikes

Sorting through prejudices and nuances of racial perception occasionally takes Black or White into intriguing territory...[more often] a rather mushily obvious, TV-movie-style courtroom drama built on straw-man arguments.
- Peter Canavese, Groucho Reviews
