First Daughter

Samantha Mackenzie (Katie Holmes) wants the same thing as every other university student: the chance to experience the world away from home and, most importantly, away from her parents. She just wants to be treated like anyone else. But it's not going to be easy, because her dad is John Mackenzie (Michael Keaton), the President of the United States.

Now living thousands of miles away from the White House, Sam hopes that she'll be free of the constraints of being the First Daughter. But everywhere she turns there's a Secret Service agent at the ready, and her fellow students won't let her stop being the most famous student in the country.

Luckily Sam's roommate, Mia, is determined to have fun - and take Sam along for the ride. Sam's adventures get even more interesting when she meets and falls head over heels for James (Marc Blucas), the Resident Advisor in her dorm.

College - and life - has even more surprises and challenges in store for Sam, and she's determined to discover where she belongs, what she wants, and who she really is.

What the critics are saying:

"First Daughter is all heart and has the best intentions in the world, but what a bore."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"A wan and predictable comedy made watchable by the perky performance of fresh-scrubbed Katie Holmes."
- Robert Dominguez, New York Daily News

"Despite overblown music, fairy-tale trappings and sugarplum narration, First Daughter plays more like a nightmare than a dream, and an exceedingly unnerving one at that."
- Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

A saccharine sweet romantic comedy about the daughter of the US president going away to university. Katie Holmes is as charming as always, but the movie is too utterly predictable to make it to "must see" status.
