It's a free world

Angie (Kierston Wareing) gets fired from a recruitment agency for bad behaviour in public. Seizing the opportunity, she teams up with her flatmate, Rose (Juliet Ellis), to run a similar business from their kitchen. Angie encounters some dangerous waters as she tries to navigate her way through gang masters, employment agencies and migrant workers, while facing her own personal problems.

Here's what the critics had to say:

"Director] Loach is in excellent form making the most of a shrewd screenplay by Paul Laverty and drawing a winning performance from newcomer Kierston Wareing as a brassy, but misguided entrepreneur."
- Ray Bennett, Hollywood Reporter

"Newcomer Wareing delivers an award-worthy performance as the steely Angie, who is impossible to hate even as she descends deeper into the moral abyss."
-Peter Howell, Toronto Star

"The hot-button topic of exploited immigrant labor forms the backdrop of It's a Free World .... , the latest collaboration between helmer Ken Loach and scribe Paul Laverty."
-Alissa Simon, Variety

"Ken Loach's latest deserves plaudits for taking on the issue of immigration from such an unexpected angle."
-William Thomas, Empire Magazine
