Shark Tale

2006-03-30 12:49

The sea underworld is shaken up when the son of the shark mob boss is found dead and a young fish named Oscar (Will Smith) is found at the scene. Being a bottom feeder, Oscar takes advantage of the situation and makes himself look like he killed the finned mobster. But Oscar soon comes to realize that his claim may have serious consequences...

What the critics are saying:

"It's occasionally amusing and the visuals are adequately glossy, but in the wake of the brilliantly inventive Finding Nemo, this effort simply does not wash."
- Stella Papamichael, BBCi Film

"The movie lacks a port of entry for young viewers -- a character they can identify with. All of the major characters are adults with adult problems like debt, romance...(and) in dealing with their concerns, the characters do way too much talking, maybe because the filmmakers were so thrilled to have great voice-over talent."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"Swimming in the lucrative wake of Finding Nemo, DreamWorks's foray into computer-generated underwater animation is a rambunctious, reasonably amusing pop confection."
- A.O. Scott, The New York Times

In their mad rush to outdo "Finding Nemo", Dreamworks have created a kids movie that most kids won't really understand. In fact some of the Hollywood in-jokes are so ancient that even us adults won't get them. But there are still enough funny moments to make it worth seeing.
