The Rocker

What it's about:

Robert "Fish" Fishman (Rainn Wilson), was the drummer for an eighties hair band. He was living the rock 'n roll dream… until he was kicked out of the group. Twenty years later, the desperate rocker joins his nephew's band, finally reclaiming the rock-god throne he's always thought he deserved - while taking his much younger bandmates along for the ride of their lives.

What the critics say:

"It's not exactly heartwarming to realize that The Rocker's Gen X fantasy of an escape from middle age is really a developmental nightmare."
James Hannaham,

"A juvenile fairy tale that plays like the pilot for a Jonas Brothers sitcom on the Disney Channel, The Rocker comes off as something penned by an old dude who hasn't bought music since it was sold 'on records'."
Robert Wilonsky, Village Voice

"[A] well-crafted, feel-good satire."
Peter Debruge, Variety

"This satire about an aging heavy metal drummer finds a good comic rhythm."
Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter

"The only brazen thing about the film is how shamelessly it rips off School of Rock."
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"It is a goofy and amusing late summer film with more than enough laughs to recommend it."
Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper
A failed drummer gets a second chance at fame 20 years after being booted out of his famous band.
