The International Rescue organization is a team of highly organized law enforcers based on a remote desert island location, who are called into action whenever sinister masterminds threaten to disturb the balance of society.

Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton) heads up the team, and employs his sons to help him out. The youngest, Alan Tracy (Brady Corbet), is a little too young to join, and is constantly frustrated by his lack of opportunity to join his brothers on their missions.

But when the evil villain known as The Hood (Ben Kingsley) traps the International Rescue team in outer space, it seems Alan's time has come. He and his pal Fermat (Soren Fulton) attempt the double-whammy of rescuing the trapped family and stopping The Hood, by drawing on help from the sultry detective Lady Penelope (Sophia Myles), her butler Parker (Ron Cook), and a few gadgets and vehicles courtesy of International Rescue.

What the critics are saying:

"...this live action adaptation of Gerry Anderson's iconic creations lacks any soul. Unless you're under six, Thunderbirds are no go."
- Nev Pierce, BBCi Film

"A movie like this is harmless, I suppose, except for the celluloid that was killed in the process of its manufacture, but as an entertainment, it will send the kids tiptoeing through the multiplex to sneak into Spider-Man 2."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"Thunderbirds wants to be two things at once: a live-action gee-whiz kiddie flick and a nostalgic spoof of 60's England when it swung like a pendulum."
- Stephen Holden, New York Times

Jonathan Frakes's adaptation of the deliciously campy '60s TV show tries to be both a romping adventure movie for the kids and a sly spoof for the parents who remember the original. Sadly it fails, and manages to be neither.
