What it's about:

Our three under-appreciated and over-burdened women rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas. And, if creating a more perfect holiday for their families weren’t difficult enough, they have to do all of that while hosting and entertaining their own mothers! By the end of the journey, they’ll redefine making the holidays special for all and reignite their own maternal relationships.

What we thought:

The bad moms are back! And this time around they’re bent on saving Christmas.

As with the first movie, A Bad Moms Christmas revolves around Amy (Mila Kunis), Kiki (Kristen Bell) and Carla (Kathryn Hahn). They’re over all the pressure that comes with Christmas each year and decide to take Christmas back. Of course, this decision, or should we call it a revelation, happens while getting drunk one day in the mall’s food court.

Also, their own mothers pitch up for Christmas, making it even more difficult for them to balance everything that goes with Christmas. Amy’s tightly-wound perfectionist mom Ruth is played by the talented Christine Baranski; Kiki’s super-friendly creepy mom who basically wants to be Kiki is played by Cheryl Hines; and Carla’s hitch-hiking former groupie mom is played by the legendary Susan Sarandon.

Now, before you get all excited, I have to be completely honest here. Like the first one, the sequel is completely over the top, filled with ridiculous stereotypes and a lot of sex jokes. It’s basically the first movie with more actors and even more stretched out slow-motion scenes that will make you go, WTF? But, and here’s the but, it’s also completely entertaining with laugh out loud moments and brainless fun.

And of course, the film also has a message; and that is the importance of having a relationship with your family, and specifically your mom. It emphasises that relationships with your family are fragile, but also that they need constant work and understanding. And that family is the one place where you must be able to be yourself. Oh, and that no matter what, you’re a super-mom!

So, I would say if you go watch this film with absolutely no expectations and an open mind to just relaxing and watching a fun movie, then this is totally for you.
