WHAT IT'S ABOUT:
When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern, Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But, once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside-down, and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy—whether he likes it or not.
WHAT WE THOUGHT:
If, like me, you know very little about the King Arthur story then this Guy Ritchie makeover of the epic tale is a perfect introduction.
It’s a quick and vibey look at the legendary British leader and the myths and stories that surround him.
It takes some serious balls to turn a well-loved classic into a big screen blockbuster. And Mr. Ritchie does it with his usual “fuck it” attitude.
True fans of Arthur might cringe at the CGI heavy re-imagination of the heroic royal’s story and the super-speed of the modern retelling. But this flick is made for the millennial audience who just don’t have time for the whole back story.
Arthur’s tale from little boy to chiselled hottie is told in less than a minute like only Ritchie can do it. It’s like Snatch – medieval style.
And Charlie Hunnam’s Arthur? He’s one cheeky chap with a wicked sense of humour and six pack to match.
Listen, I know the critics are lambasting this one with fancy words and smart critic language, but I say screw ‘em. I enjoyed myself and walked out of the cinema happy to have spent 2 hours and 6 minutes of my life in a cinema watching this flick.
Yes it’s fast, loud and in your face – but ain’t nobody got time for boring. Well done, Guy. I fucking loved it.
